From Data to Decisions - The Analytics Lifecycle

Data driven capabilities are migrating from science experiment to main stream capabilities at many E&P companies. This brings with it a need to have sound workflows. In this webinar we will present common methodologies that frame the analytics lifecycle of converting raw sensor measurements and unstructured data into scalable, auditable and repeatable solutions. SAS and Intel in conjunction with the PD2A and DSATS technical sections of the SPE will present a webinar on the step by step workflows required to do this. The Webinar will close with a look into the future of both advanced analytics and on device intelligence.

Moray Laing

US Industry Principal for Oil & Gas, SAS

Mr. Laing joined SAS in 2013 as the US Industry Principal for Oil & Gas. He started his career at Baker Hughes where he spent 24 years working in both operations and new product development. In his final role at Baker Hughes Moray was the Director of innovation for the Gulf of Mexico region where his team were responsible for the rapid development and marketing of regionally specific technologies. Moray is passionate about advancing automation solutions in oil and gas, and the role that data driven solutions have to play. Moray holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Aided Engineering from Robert Gordon's University, and an Executive MBA from Texas A&M University.

Keith R. Holdaway


Mr. Holdaway is author of "Harness Oil and Gas Big Data with Analytics: Optimize Exploration and Production with Data Driven Models" published by Wiley in July 2014. He worked for several geophysical companies in his 15 year career, primarily at Petroleum Development of Oman as a geophysicist. He has worked over the past 15 years for SAS Institute to help harness SAS analytics to geophysical, geologic and reservoir engineering data to ascertain exploratory data analysis and appropriate modeling approaches to enable more robust forecasting and identify new field-reengineering strategies in mature assets. He has a Master's Degree in Geophysics from Durham University UK, and is a Fellow of the Geological Society in London.

Philip Easterling


Mr. Easterling earned his B.A. degree in Mathematical Sciences and Economics from Rice University and his M.S. degree in Applied Operations Research from the University of California, Berkeley. He has over 21 years of analytical software sales and consulting experience with SAS, including predictive modeling in manufacturing and service industries; optimization for logistics industries; and a broad range of analytic methods in the oil and gas industry. In addition, he has provided related training and mentoring services to both internal and external SAS customers. He also has over seven years of quantitative business experience in the competitive, deregulated US commercial airline industry.

Martin Guttmann

Principal Solution Architect, Intel

Martin has extensive experience ranging from computer hardware systems, large enterprise applications, mission critical solution architecture, data center and cloud operations experience. His expertise and experience in system architecture, design, implementation and integration of business solutions, cloud solutions enables customers to undertake modernization efforts to efficiently optimize their IT and cloud compute infrastructure.
